OJAS & WOO x Jessica Violetta Seasonal Series: Scent + Art

This OJAS & WOO and Jessica Violetta collaboration aims to bring forward beautiful memories and emotion from each season Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring.

Jessica Violetta (www.jessicavioletta.com) is an artist and surface designer currently living in the New Jersey Bayshore / NYC metro area. She spent nine years living in San Francisco where she received a BFA in Illustration from California College of the Arts and worked as an in-house Textile Designer for Pottery Barn. Her fine art has been shown in several galleries and she has produced a variety of commercial murals and artwork for Bay Area brands. All of Jessica’s work is inspired by the beauty where vulnerable creatures overlap with their survival mechanisms. Her paintings seek to empower Womxn by intertwining symbols of darker experiences with their own inherent beauty in order to honor our full, yet often under-acknowledged truths.

Jessica: My artwork for these seasonal scents was directly inspired by a set of large gouache paintings I am working on. Each piece is inspired by one of the four traditional seasons and focuses on organic, feminine qualities as well as the idea that we can lift each other up when vulnerable.

The Summer design is inspired by my experience living on both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts and the beautiful nature that intertwines with the ocean. I used warm neutral muted colors to echo the subtle washed feeling of the beach. There is something so calming and uplifting about the coast and all of the vibrant life that can be found there.

For Autumn, I emphasized the variety of rich color that brings us warmth, sustenance, and satisfaction. It's a cozy time with crispness but so much warm light and feel-good foods. While I made this artwork, I was imagining falling leaves all around me and an overflowing basket of fresh picked fruit.

My Winter art was inspired by the transformation that comes with a blanket of snow. So much plantlife is still present, just cradling the snowflakes. But the world is white and life feels quiet. It is a gentle kind of beauty that encourages us to turn inward and find comfort in thick cozy layers and candlelight.

Springtime for me means abundant beginnings and fresh, new life. This artwork was inspired by my painting that features a pregnant woman in a meadow of flowers. In the Northeast, there are buds and blossoms on every tree and the growth happens so quickly, it is incredible. I wanted to preserve the purity of this and let the focal point be the beautiful flower.”

Sneak Peak to ‘Waves & Sand’ for Summer

We curated each scent based on notes that would bring memories for each season. During the process of creating “Waves & Sand” for summer, summer books were read for inspiration, and various lovely fragrances were mixed to bring forth pleasant emotions of basking in the sun.
